Italian Rolling Party 2006 - A short report

Hi everybody. So, the IRP 2006 now is over and its time to tell all the people wo couldn't make it to the Groove Skatepark what has been going on for the last two days.

First of all i would like to thank all the people who showed there, but mostly the skaters, which always give me a great inspiration to continue doing all this.
Bisca set up a nice stand which soon became a referring point for everyone who needed a safe place to put their camera or that was jusk seeking for a nice seat and some shadow.

Day one, saturday 17

In the news, the contest went off smooth for the qualification rounds, there even was a under-16 category with some really nice kids (one of them was 7 years old) skating around all padded.
Unsponsored skaters ran in the amateur category, while sponsored ones were into the pro round.
The amateur section featured mostly italian skaters, divided into batteries.

After the qualifications it was time for the best trick competition. Only few of the pro skaters applied to the comp. Each of them could try his best trick 3 times before giving his place to the next skater. As always, the best trick comp is the most exciting moment: Nano was trying a transfert to topsoul on the wide bank,

Daniel Prell was getting creative with an ao topsoul to cab out in the bank on the wood fence of the skatepark,
and Nicolas Airoux was jumping off the whole central box with a roll in up the ledge to disaster royale on the small rail on the side of the box.

The best trick went on till 9 and eveybody was so tired that we decided to postpone the prizegiving.

Day two, sunday 18

Sunday we showed up a bit late as well, and Bisi and the guys already had put out the list of riders who would compete for the finals. Here's the pro-list:
  • Daniel Prell
  • Anne
  • Mauro "Nano" Moi
  • Mathias Ogger
  • Patrick Struder
  • Ajad
  • Akrich
  • Aroux
Plus 13 amateur skaters and 4 under-16.
Everybody did their best during the 2 runs of 60 seconds each. Prell and Ogger were pulling tight lines and skating the whole park almost without stopping once. Patrick didn't skate because he was injuried fron the day before, and Anne was doing crazy switch-ups on the ledges as usually.
Mauro "Nano" Moi did an excellent first run, starting from his newly learnt backflip to some crazy switch ups on the yellow rail. Unfortunately, for the second Nano was out of luck, and fell cutting his shin on one of the ledges while he was trying do to a bs royale to trasfert soul to transfert royale as the closing trick of his run. The cut was deep and so paramedics were called to take care of him.

After the quiet was restabilished, the finals went ahead. Before the second run, there was the Best trick prizegiving, which had been anticipated because Aroux had to leave as well as the whole Nice Skateshop crew.

Everyone was great! We hope to see all our european friends more and more often (France, Croatia, Germany, Switzerland).
On the other hand italians should come togheter and do their best to organize events like this (or even better) more often.
